Bees are increasingly a source of complaint to domestic customers. In normal circumstances, we would advise to leave bees well alone as they play such an important role in the natural world. Excellent advice on the most common bees and even how you can find a local bee keeper to help remove honey bees can be found on the British Bee Keepers Association website.
However, there are occasions when the nest presents an unacceptable health risk such as when they have taken up residence in your chimney or they are very close to your windows or you are concerned for young children. On these occasions, we can help.
Honey Bees Where a swarm of honey bees is encountered, we will enlist the services of a bee keeper to help remove the nest and relocate them to somewhere safe. The British Bee Keepers Association provide excellent advice on identifying honey bees and finding a bee keeper in the local area to help with their safe removal. It may be worth waiting for 4 or 5 days before doing anything to see whether the swarm moves on from your property. Often, they will rest in an area such as in a tree or on a fence before moving on to find a better location to set up a more permanent residence.
Destroying honey bees does not sit easily with us and we will only do so as a last resort. When honey bees have settled forming a well established colony in inaccessible areas such as in chimneys or cavities of walls, there may be no option but to destroy the nest.
To off-set the impact, Seekers Pest and Property Services participate in the 'Adopt a Bee Hive' scheme operated by the British Bee Keepers Association.
Bumble Bees Bumble bees will often take up residence in our homes in places such as the eaves of roof, in compost bins or in any other crack or hole which affords them protection. Our advice would be the same as with honey bees....if they are not causing you a problem, then leave them alone!
Sometimes they will nest in areas close to windows or in places where they present an unacceptable risk. Tree bumble bees have become a very common issue for us to deal with and more often than not, this is the type of bee we will called out to. Tree bumble bees can be identified by their distinctive colours of orange, black and white from their head to bottom. You will often see the smaller male drones flying around the outside of a nest hoping for one of the larger females to emerge in the hopes of mating. Treatment and removal of bumble bees is safe and effective with the nest being destroyed within 48 hours. If you need advice or to discuss bumble bee removal in Ellesmere Port, please give us a call.
